Our History

Hoërskool John Vorster was founded in 1962 to meet the growing educational needs of the Nigel community on the East Rand of Gauteng. From humble beginnings with fewer than a hundred learners and a handful of dedicated teachers, the school has grown over the decades into a leading bilingual Afrikaans-English secondary school that accommodates more than 800 learners. Through the years, John Vorster has built a reputation for academic excellence, strong sporting achievements, and a vibrant cultural life — all driven by the school motto that rings just as true today as it did on the very first day: Volhard en Oorwin.
