Our School Rules

Hoërskool John Vorster's rules are there to ensure a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment for all learners. We ask that parents discuss these rules with their children and encourage them to comply. The full code of conduct is available as a downloadable document on the Documents and Forms page.

School Dress and Appearance

  • Learners must wear the prescribed school uniform at all times.
  • Shoes must be neatly polished and in good condition.
  • Hair must be clean, neat, and within the prescribed guidelines.
  • No visible piercings or tattoos are permitted, except small earrings for girls.
  • Make-up, nail polish, and decorated nails are not permitted.
  • Sports clothing and equipment may only be worn during sport and cultural periods.

Attendance

  • School hours: Monday–Thursday 07:00–15:00; Friday 07:00–14:00 (or later for after-school activities).
  • Learners must be on the school grounds before 07:20.
  • Absence must be excused in writing by a parent or guardian. A doctor's note is required for absences longer than two days.
  • Late arrival must be reported at the office.
  • Learners may not leave the school grounds without permission.

Conduct and Discipline

  • Respect towards all educators, staff, and fellow learners is compulsory.
  • Bullying, intimidation, or any form of violence will not be tolerated.
  • Honesty and integrity are expected in all academic and extra-mural activities.
  • Smoking, alcohol, and drugs on the school grounds or at school activities are strictly prohibited.
  • Damage to property is a disciplinary offence which may also include financial repair costs.

Electronic Devices

  • Mobile phones must be on silent or switched off during teaching time.
  • The use of mobile phones during lessons is only permitted if an educator specifically requests it for a learning task.
  • The school accepts no responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged electronic devices.
  • Unauthorised use of devices may lead to confiscation and a parent will be notified.
