Teen Drama

The Teen Drama group consists of learners from Grade 8 to 12. All learners who wish to participate are invited to audition at the beginning of the year — this is how the cast is chosen, as well as the learners who handle the technical aspects such as lighting, sound, makeup, and stage management. We take part in the Allegretto Drama Festival every year, which is performed at the Springs Theatre.

This Year — Verbode Sirkus (Forbidden Circus)

This year's production is titled Verbode Sirkus (Forbidden Circus). The performers of the Forbidden Circus have been captured by the Ringmaster in another dimension and are forced to perform tricks at the Forbidden Circus for all eternity. We perform in July at the Allegretto Drama Festival.

Hoërskool John Vorster's drama group recently showed off their talent on stage at the prestigious Allegretto Drama Festival. Their gripping performance kept audiences on the edge of their seats and the group walked away with several awards. Ester Oberholzer designed the creative poster for the production and acquitted herself particularly well of the task.

Awards and Outstanding Achievements

The drama group was rewarded for both their bold acting and their technical skills behind the scenes. As a group, Verbode Sirkus (Forbidden Circus) received an overall Bronze certificate for the production, as well as a Silver certificate for technical aspects.

There were also several outstanding individual achievements recognised during the festival:

Zuleika Muller — Gold for lighting operator, Silver for makeup, Bronze for lighting design
Mrs Davis — Gold for sound operator, Bronze for costumes
Dante Davis — Bronze for acting
Ester Oberholzer — Bronze for acting, as well as Silver for set design
Cathrine van Niekerk — Bronze for stage management

Congratulations to the whole cast and crew of Verbode Sirkus (Forbidden Circus) who held Hoërskool John Vorster's name high at this year's Allegretto Drama Festival!

Last Year — Verlore Stemme (Lost Voices)

Last year's production was titled Verlore Stemme (Lost Voices). It deals with human trafficking and the lasting impact it has on the lives of so many women.
