Sports Offered at Hoërskool John Vorster
Our school offers a wide range of sporting codes to cater for diverse interests and talents. Learners are encouraged to participate in at least one sporting code. All codes are managed by dedicated coaches and staff members.
Athletics
Our athletics programme covers track and field events. Learners compete at school, district, and provincial meetings during the first term.
Equestrian (Ruiterkuns)
Equestrian sport is a unique and challenging discipline offered at Hoërskool John Vorster. Learners compete in various equestrian events and represent the school at interschool and regional meetings.
Golf
Hoërskool John Vorster offers golf as a sporting code. Learners get the opportunity to practise and represent the school at interschool and regional tournaments.
Hockey
Hockey is played by boys and girls and offers excellent opportunities for team spirit and fitness. Competition takes place in the second term.
Interschools Singing
Learners take part in interschool singing competitions, representing the school with pride.
Jukskei
Jukskei is a traditional South African sport offered at Hoërskool John Vorster. Learners practise and compete in interschool jukskei competitions.
Chess
Chess is a strategic and intellectual sport at Hoërskool John Vorster. The school chess team competes in interschool and regional competitions, developing critical thinking and concentration.
Karate and Combat Sports
Karate and combat sports develop discipline, self-control, and respect. Learners compete in karate and related codes at interschool and regional events.
Cricket
Cricket is played during the second term with senior and junior teams competing in interschool fixtures.
Cross Country
Cross Country is a demanding endurance sport where learners compete across varied terrain. It builds character, promotes fitness, and instils perseverance — in line with our motto: Volhard en Oorwin.
Netball
Netball teams represent the school in local league and regional competitions during the second term.
Rugby
Rugby is one of the flagship sports at John Vorster. Teams compete at district and regional level across multiple age groups.
Tennis

Excursions and Tours
Excursions and tours give learners and staff the opportunity to step outside the classroom, build camaraderie, and enjoy unforgettable experiences including float building and team-building expeditions.
