Chess at Hoërskool John Vorster
Chess is a strategic and intellectual sport at Hoërskool John Vorster. The school chess team competes in interschool and regional competitions throughout the year. Chess teaches learners to think methodically, analyse problems, and remain calm under pressure.
The game requires patience, concentration, and strategic planning — qualities that are just as valuable in the classroom and in life as they are on the chessboard. We welcome learners of all levels, from beginners to advanced players.
Hoërskool John Vorster has a top chess team that is progressing well and is very positive.
We gladly welcome new faces and also teach new players how to play chess.
Upcoming Events
Our chess team will tour from 24 to 26 July 2026. We will be participating in the ATTA Tournament at ATKV Buffelspoort. Three teams will be competing.
At Vossieland we will host the chess cluster playoffs for the Nigel and Springs areas on 1 August 2026. The playoffs will take place at Hoërskool John Vorster, where the following schools will compete:
