Grade 12 — Your Final Year
The matric year is an exciting but challenging time. At Hoërskool John Vorster we support our Grade 12 learners every step of the way — from academic guidance to farewell events that mark the high point of their school years.
Matrics 2026: Last School Day
Today our Matric group celebrated their last official school day – a day full of meaning, memories and emotion.
The day began with a special Matric service in the school hall, led by Rev. Riaan Jonker. Afterwards, the Matrics signed their Pledge – the official Department of Basic Education document setting out the rules and regulations for the National Senior Certificate examinations.
To close the day, our Matrics followed the special Vossieland tradition and walked out through the school gate.
The school gate is opened only twice a year: at the start of the year to welcome our new Grade 8s – our “groentjies” – and at the end of the year to bid our Matrics farewell. It is a beautiful tradition and a truly special moment in every Vossie’s school career.
To every Matric learner of 2026: we wish you only the best for the road ahead. May you take this final step towards the finish line with hard work, determination and belief in yourselves. We know you will give it your all, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you.

Matric Farewell Arrival 2026 — 9 October
The arrival of our matriculants at the Matric Farewell is one of the great highlights of the year. On Friday, 9 October 2026, we invite parents, family, friends and the whole Vossie community to come and celebrate our legends with us as we watch them arrive in style.
Important information for spectators:
- The gate opens at 14:30.
- The only entrance for spectators will be the gate in Barkley Road.
- Matriculants will arrive between 15:00 and 17:45.
- All guests are kindly asked to stay seated on the pavilion.
- No spectators are allowed on the field while the matriculants are arriving.
Access: R10 per adult and R5 per child — cash only.
Parking: Free parking is available on the upper-level hockey field.

NSC Final Examinations 2026 — Timetable
The Department of Basic Education has released the official timetable for the October/November 2026 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. The first papers will be written on Tuesday, 13 October 2026 and the last on Wednesday, 25 November 2026.
Important dates:
- Tuesday, 1 September — Life Orientation (LO CAT, 2½ hrs)
- 3 August to 9 October — Performing Arts practical examinations
- 14 September to 13 October — Visual Arts and Design practical examinations
- Friday, 9 October — Pledge Signing
- Monday, 12 October — Life Orientation (LO CAT) rewrite
- Tuesday, 13 October — First NSC papers
- 3 to 5 November and 9 November — Non-examination days
- Wednesday, 25 November — Final paper (Music P2)
- Thursday, 26 November — CAT and IT P1 Practical rewrites

Matric Farewell and Farewell Events
The Matric Farewell is the highlight of the matric learners' school career. This formal evening event is held at the end of the academic year and gives learners the opportunity to celebrate their final year's achievements together with friends and family.
